On January 16, 1969, the USPS issued a set of four stamps to celebrate the Beautification of America by planting Trees & Flowers. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with all four stamps, depicting planting of cities, parks, highways, and streets, cancelled from the city of issue (Washington DC) on the first day of issue captioned above. The stamp for Cities features Wahington DC with the Capitol in the background and a plethora of tulips in the foreground. The stamp for Parks shows the Washington Memorial in the background with a host of daffodils adorning grassy areas. The stamp for Highways shows wildflowers adorning the long expanses of cement...thanks in large part to the efforts of Lady Bird Johnson. Finally, the stamp for Streets depicts flowering trees flanking a hometown thoroughfare.
The color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features the Jefferson Memorial framed by cherry blossoms. Whether you or someone you know is a gardener, a city planner, a member of a Garden Club, this cover will pay tribute to the time & effort made by those who take the time to Keep America Beautiful!
Double matted in green and white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
