Theodore Roosevelt... Shown here is a Commemorative Cover honoring the 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt. The postmark "freezes his day of birth (October 27) and the place he was born (New York City.) In order for the post office to cancel, current postage must be affixed. A U.S. Flag Stamp and the stamp issued in 1948 to honor the Rough Riders supplied the postage.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Roosevelt as commander of the first U.S. Volunteer Calvary to serve in Cuba during the Spanish-American War. Known as the Rough Riders, they will be forever remembered for their charge up Kettle Hill.
