Great Britain's 2007 Postal Tribute to The Beatles......
On January 7, 2007, the Royal Mail of Great Britain issued six single stamps and one Souvenir Sheet with four stamps to honor the Beatles and the meeting in 1957 of John Lennon and Paul McCartney in Liverpool. Each of the six single stamps is designed to resemble a stack of record albums, with one album cover prominently displayed on the top of the stack. All of the album covers selected picture the four Beatles: George Harrison, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and Paul McCartney. Chronologically, the album covers are With the Beatles, 1963; Help, 1965; Revolver, 1966, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band, 1967; Abbey Road, 1969; and Let It Be, 1970. In addition to picturing the Beatles, the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band cover depicts a host of other well-known people, all wax images from Madame Tussauds Wax Museum.
The four stamps in the souvenir sheet (starting at the upper left) feature a toy Beatle's guitar and a Beatle's button. Next to it the stamp shows a Beatles lunch box (don't you wish you still had yours!), key chains and buttons. On the lower left the stamp displays a 45-rpm record; the final stamp features a tray with portraits of the Fab Four. The surrounding artwork on the souvenir sheet shows other Beatle's memorabilia including a pair of shoes.
The first time Great Britain has honored their home-grown gift to the world of Rock 'n Roll, these stamps are collectible, historic, and a must-have for any Beatles collector!
Postal Stamp Art has matted these stamps on Blue mat with four separate openings - the souvenir sheet double matted in blue and white. It's sized to fit a standard 11x14 frame.
