On July 4th 1986, New York was host to a parade of Tall Ships from around the world in celebration of the centennial of the Statue of Liberty. Shown here is a genuine Commemorative Cover, an envelope with the centennial stamp of the Statue of Liberty cancelled from South Street Seaport Station on the day of the event captioned above.  On a commemorative cover the stamp merely serves the purpose of supplying current postage, for, without it, the post office would not affix a postmark.  The cancellation depicts a Tall Ship and was designed expressly to 'freeze' this date and place in history.

The full-color silk cachet (artwork on the envelope) features the pride of the Royal Navy of Oman, the Shabab Oman, a 171' barquentine, the only Tall Ship of the Arab world.  Translated from Arabic, Shabab Oman means "Youth of Oman."

There is nothing quite so spectacular as a Tall Ship under full-sail.  This small envelope honors all the countries and crews, who participated in celebrating the birthday of the "Lady in the Harbor" on July 4, 1986.

Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame.
