THOROUGHBRED 1st Day Issue Postal Cover.... On
July 5, 1978, the Royal Post of Great Britain issued a set of four
stamps to celebrate their magnificent native horses. Shown here is a
genuine First Day Issue Postal Cover with the stamp for the Thoroughbred, cancelled from its unique city of issue (Brighton) on first day of issue
captioned above. Note the special postmark reading, "The Sport of
Kings" created expressly to cancel this one stamp on its 'birthday.'
The cachet
(artwork on the envelope) shows a thoroughbred mare and her foal with
the following caption below - "Thoroughbred - Fast as brushfire, smooth
as wind, the thoroughbred is the aristocrat of all horses." The company
that produced this cover has also written a brief commentary about the
thoroughbred, which we've included."
Matted in green & white, we've sized the mat to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
