RMS Titanic.... On
October 15, 1997, The Marshall Islands issued a set of stamps to
represent the events of the second decade of the 20th Century. Shown
here is a genuine First Day Cover, an over sized envelope with the full-color stamp, depicting the sinking of the RMS Titanic on April 15, 1912, cancelled from the city of issue (Majuro, Marshall Islands) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The cachet
- artwork on the envelope is a larger version of what is on the stamp.
Several people are huddled in a lifeboat while the luxury liner sinks
in the frigid north Atlantic waters. The father and son artists, Paul
and Chris Calle designed the artwork which became the basis for the
stamp and cachet. The company that produced this cover has also written a
brief commentary about this event, which we have included.
Matted in blue, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
