On June 27, 2001, the USPS issued a set of ten stamps to commemorate Ten Classic Ballparks. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover for Tiger Stadium, completed in 1912, and home to the Detroit Tigers until 1999. The stamp for Tiger Stadium is cancelled from the city of issue (in this case Boston, MA) on the first day of issue captioned above. Instead of the usual one city of issue selected for the vast majority of stamps, this set of ten stamps had FOUR....Chicago, Detroit, New York, and Boston. Obviously, the best cancellation one could have for Yankee Stadium is New York, NY.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features an overall view of Comerica Park, which is the new home of the Detroit Tigers, as well as an inset showing the 1st pitch at Comerica April 11, 2000.
Double matted in black and white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
