On May 31, 1996, the USPS issued a stamp commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the Statehood of Tennessee. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the full-color stamp, which depicts the State Capitol Building in Nashville, cancelled from the city of issue (Nashville, TN) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark designed to cancel this stamp on its 'birthday.'
The addition of Four older stamps, which were cancelled on the 'birthday' of the Tennessee Bicentennial stamp, make this a Combo - an extra special First Day Cover. The older stamps include the State Flag stamp (1976), the Sesquicentennial stamp (1946), the Battle of Shiloh stamp (1962), and the Andrew Jackson stamp (1938.)
The color cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post office) features the State Capitol Building printed on silk, the luminosity lending an almost three-dimensional quality to the picture.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
