The USPS issued a stamp in 1997 to honor composer, Igor Stravinsky. He stimulated controversy with his brilliant musical compositions created for the modern ballet such as The Rite of Spring and The Firebird. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with Stravinsky's stamp cancelled form the city of issue (New York City) on the first day of issue (November 18, 1982), the 100th anniversary of his birth.September 12, 1997.)
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a full-color portrait of Stravinsky. Since this is only a 2 cents stamp, extra postage had to be added before the Post Office would cancel. For a lover of American Classical Music, this is a collectible, historic piece of music memorabilia.
Double matted in blue & white, it will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included plus a short bio of the composer***
