On May 20, 1982, the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate the steam Locomotive. Shown here is an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Chicago) on the first day of issue captioned above. Because the Locomotive stamp is only 2 cents, the envelope need additional postage to bring it up to the current rate for 1982, hence the car stamp..... otherwise the post office would not have cancelled the new stamp.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a train pulled up to a station; it's printed on silk surrounded by gold embossing. Great art, unaddressed, this cover is a collectible, historic piece of railroad and postal memorabilia.
Double matted in green & white, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
