On August 21, 1997, the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of one of America's most beloved marches, "The Stars and Stripes Forever." Written by Bandmaster, Composer, and Conductor of the U.S. Marine Band, John Philip Sousa in 1896, this march is always a show stopper... whether played by the Marine Band on the fourth of July or by Vladimir Horowitz on the piano in Carnegie Hall. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Milwaukee, WI) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post office) features Sousa's portrait surrounded by a patriotic motif with plenty of stars & stripes! Whether you're a Marine, a member of a marching band, or just love a good Sousa march, this cover is sure to please.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
