On August 28, 1981, the USPS issued a set of four stamps honoring American Architecture. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp depicting the New York University Library cancelled from the city of issue (Washington DC) on the first day of issue captioned above. Designed by architect Stanford White, the library is reminiscent of the Greek Pantheon, and from its location on the brow of a hill directly overlooking the Harlem River, it bears witness to the saying that whatever architect Stanford White's hand touched, it adorned.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) depicts a painting of the library. The producer of this cover has also written a brief commentary about Stanford White and his masterpiece, which we've included.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
