Stamp Collecting - George W. Linn...

On September 1, 1923, George W. Linn, an avid stamp enthusiast, designed and produced the 1st pre-printed cacheted First Day Cover.   Shown here is a genuine Commemorative Cover, an envelope with the 11/17/72 stamp celebrating Stamp Collecting, cancelled on the 50th Anniversary if this historic philatelic event from Marion, Ohio - the city of issue of a 2-cents stamp honoring the late President Warren G. Harding.  The cachet was text only giving Harding's name, 29th President, and birth and death dates.

The cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company - in this case Fleetwood, not the USPS), shows a photo of Linn with Fleetwood logos in the background and the following commentary at the bottom,  "Pioneered Modern First Day Cover Collecting with creation of the world's first cacheted First Day Cover for the Harding Memorial Issue on Deptember 1, 1923."

Double matted in green and white, this item is sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
