St. Andrews - Francis Ouimet.....

This stunning full-color art print of the layout of St. Andrews is paired with a genuine First Day Cover, in this case a Maximum Card with the stamp honoring America's first golfing hero, Francis Ouimet, cancelled on the first day of issue (June 13, 1988) from the city of issue (Brookline, MA.)  A maximum card is made of heavy stock paper, and gets its name 'maximum' because the cachet or artwork takes up the entire space.  Even the words "First Day of Issue" are omitted so as not to interfere with the art.

The cachet features a close-up portrait of a young Francis Ouimet, who, at the age of 20, became the first amateur to win the U.S. Open. The story of his win over the two leading British Professionals, with the help of his 10-year old caddie, Eddie Lowry, was the subjet of the movie, "The Greatest Game Ever Played."  And, oh, yes, if you're wondering why we've paired this cover with St. Andrews, it's because Francis Ouimet became the first American to be elected captain of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews!

Matted in green, it's sized to fit a standard 11 x 14 frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
