On June 17, 1995, the USPS issued a set of five stamps celebrating LIGHTHOUSES OF THE GREAT LAKES...Thirty Mile Point, Marblehead, Split Rock, Spectacle Reef, and St. Joseph. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover for Split Rock on Lake Superior, an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Cheboygan, MI) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) depicts this Minnesota lighthouse at night atop its craggy pedastal jutting into a foggy Lake Superior, its beacon glowing brightly along with a full moon. The picture is printed on silk, making it look almost 3-dimensional.
Double matted in blue & white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
