On February 1, 1980, the USPS issued a set of four stamps commemorating the Winter Olympic Games which were held in Lake Placid, New York. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp for Speed Skating cancelled from the city of issue (Lake Placid, NY) on the first day of issue captioned above. If the year 1980 and the place, Lake Placid, is ringing a bell, these are the Olympic Games that witnessed the US upsetting the Soviet Union for the Hockey Gold Medal.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a skater as well as US medal information about this event. Historic, collectible, this is truly a great piece of Skating Memorabilia.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included ***
