On June 17, 1995, the USPS issued a set of five stamps celebrating LIGHTHOUSES OF THE GREAT LAKES...Thirty Mile Point, Marblehead, Split Rock, Spectacle Reef, and St. Joseph. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover for Spectacle Reef Lighthouse on Lake Huron, an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Cheboygan, MI) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) depicts this Cheboygan,Michigan lighthouse located on a submerged limestone reef having taken four years to erect and a testament to expert engineering. The picture is printed on silk, making it look almost 3-dimensional.
Double matted in blue & white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
