On May 21, 1981, the USPS issued a spectacular set of eight stamps commemorating the First Space Shuttle Flight launched on April 12, 1981. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with all eight stamps cancelled from the city of issue (Kennedy Space Center, FL) on the first day of issue captioned above. The stamps depict Columbia with its white painted booster on the four large stamps, three unmanned space probeson three smaller stamps, and an astronaut on the moon on the remaining smaller stamp.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows Columbia roaring off its launching pad into Space and into History. Knowing her tragic fate, makes this piece all the more poignant. The producer or this cover has also included a brieg commentary about the Space Shuttle; a copy is included for you. Collectible, historic, all 8 stamps cancelled on one cover...well, it just doesn't get any better!
Double matted in blue & white, this piece will fit a standard 8 X 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
