On June 13, 2003, the USPS issued a set of five stamps celebrating US SOUTHEASTERN LIGHTHOUSES, beginning in Virginia and ending in Florida....Old Cape Henry, Cape Lookout, Morris Island, Tybee Island, and Hillsboro Inlet. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover for Old Cape Henry in Virginia cancelled from the city of issue (Tybee Island, GA) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark used to cancel this set of stamps on the first day.

The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) depicts the first lighthouse authorized by the US Congress, its beacon shining for the first time in 1792. For almost 90 years it served to guide ships along the Virginia and Maryland coasts, but had to be replaced in 1881...the New Cape Henry Lighthouse stands about 350 ft. southeast of the original and is today the third oldest lighthouse in the US; you can see it on the cachet in the background. The producer of this cover has written a short commentary of the history of this lighthouse...a copy has been made for you.

Double matted in blue and white, this item is sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
