On June 13, 2003, the USPS issued a set of five stamps celebrating US SOUTHEASTERN LIGHTHOUSES, beginning in Virginia and ending in Florida....Old Cape Henry, Cape Lookout, Morris Island, Tybee Island, and Hillsboro Inlet. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover for Cape Lookout in North Carolina cancelled from the city of issue (Tybee Island, GA) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark used to cancel this set of stamps on the first day.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) depicts Cape Lookout with its distinctive black and white diamond pattern. Built in 1859, it guides mariners into Lookout Bight Harbor and became automated and unmanned in 1950. The producer of this cover has written a short commentary of the history of this lighthouse...a copy has been made for you.
Double matted in blue and white, this item is sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
