Sir Thomas Sopwith in the years prior to WWI became England's premier aviator, establishing the first major flight school in Great Britain. Together with Harry Walker, he began the Sopwith Aviation Company, producing the most famous British aircraft of the early 20th century. During WWI, the Sopwith Camel enjoyed the reputation as one of the most maneuverable aircraft ever manufactured. Shown here is a Commemorative Cover to celebrate this pioneer of aviation.
On a commemorative cover, the stamp is immaterial; it's only there because the Post Office will not cancel unless there is current postage. The postmark is from London, England on January 18, 1980, Sopwith's place and anniversary of birth.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Sir Thomas Sopwith and the 1917 Camel. The producer of this cover has written a short commentary about Sopwith, which we, in turn, have included.
Matted in blue, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included plus Commentary Included***
