On June 9, 1990, France issued a stamp to honor one of her most gifted artists, Auguste Rodin. Although known for his sculptures, he left a legacy of close to eight thousand drawings and sketches. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp, depicting a drawing of a seated Cambodian woman, cancelled from the city of issue (Paris) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark of Rodin's signature created to cancel this stamp on its 'birthday.'
The color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a close-up of one of his sculptures. The combination of a drawing (the stamp) and a sculpture (the cachet) illustrate the versitility and genius of Rodin. The producer of this cover has also included a brief commentary about Rodin, which we've included.
Matted in blue, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8 X 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
