The USPS honored humorist, novelist, historian and critic Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) with a stamp in 1940. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Hannibal, Mo.) on the first day of issue (February 13, 1940.)
