On March 24, 1983, the USPS issued a stamp jointly with Sweden to commemorate 200 years of friendship and peace with The Treaty of Amity and Commerce of 1783. With the signing of this treaty by Sweden's Baron Gustaf Philip Creutz and America's Benjamin Franklin, Sweden became the very first neutral nation in Europe to recognize the new republic of America. Shown here is a genuine Joint Issue - Dual Cancellation First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp from each country cancelled from the cities of issue (Washington, DC and Stockholm on the first day of issue  and exact same date captioned above. Whenever a stamp is issued jointly, there is always a grace period so that each country can send its covers to the other country and that country, in turn, can apply its stamp allowing the same 1st day of cancellation on each postmark.

The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) symbolizes the treaty with a stylized "200" and quill pen.  The stamps from both countries show the signatures of both Franklin and Creutz, a drawing of Franklin and the seal of Sweden. The producer of this cover has also written a brief history of this event.  We have included a copy for you.

Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
