On May 2, 2000, the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate the SUV - Sports Utility Vehicle, made popular by the Ford Explorer introduced in 1990. This quintessential family car was one of fifteen events selected to represent the decade of the 1990's in the USPS Series of 150 stamps called Celebrate the Century. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Escondido, Ca.) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features this versatile, yet comfortable vehicle that defined a decade. Great art, great history, unaddressed, this cover is a collectible, piece of automobile and postal memorabilia.
Double matted in blue & white, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included plus a short history of the SUV***
