On September 10, 1998, the USPS issued a set of fifteen different stamps to commemorate the decade of the 1930's. One of these events was the creation of the superhero, SUPERMAN. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Cleveland, Ohio), on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark designed and used to cancel this stamp on its 'birthday.' This fifteen stamp set was a part of an even larger 150 stamp set called Celebrate the Century - made up of fifteen stamps from each decade.
The black & white cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post office) features several other events from this decade...FDR, Gone With the Wind, the Great Depression, Bobby Jones, the game of Monopoly, Jesse Owens at the Olympics, the Golden Gate Bridge, modern appliances, and Life Magazine.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
