In 1992 and 1994, the company of Fleetwood produced a set of Commemorative Covers celebrating U.S. Military Aircraft. Shown here is the one for the SR-71A Blackbird, the replacement for Lockheed's famous U-2. Flown by the most skilled pilots, the SR-71 set many speed-over-distance records.
On a commemorative cover, the stamp is immaterial; it's only there because the Post Office will not cancel unless there is current postage. The cancellation shows the stamp cancelled from Burbank, Ca., April 26, 1994. The cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows a dramatic picture of the Blackbird flying a high-altitude reconnaissance mission.
Matted in blue, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. A short blurb on the Blackbird is included.
