On September 15, 1988, the United Nations issued a stamp in their Flag Series to honor the country of Spain. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp depicting the Spanish Flag cancelled from the city of issue (United Nations, NY) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark showing several national flags created to cancel this stamp on its 'birthday.'
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) celebrates the many facets of Spain...from castles to matadors, from windmills to flamenco and the classical guitar of Andre Segovia. The producer of this cover has written a brief commentary about Spain, which we've included.
