Sonoran Desert.... On April 6,1999, the USPS issued a set of ten stamps to commemorate the Sonoran Desert in Arizona. Five of these are shown here on this genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamps cancelled from the city of issue (Tucson) on the first day of issue captioned above. In short, it's the 'birthday' of the stamp - a collectible, historic
piece of postal and southwest memorabilia. Note: Check out the clever
'Gila Monster' cancellation. Beginning at the top left we see the Desert Cottontail and blooming Hedgehog Cactus; next is the Desert Tortoise; following is the Desert Mule Deer; at the bottom left is the Western Diamondback Rattlesnake and the Cactus Mouse; finally, we have the colorful Gila Monster and more of those beautiful hedgehog cactus in bloom.
The cachet
(artwork on the envelope) shows all ten plants and animals that make up
this series. The stamps themselves are large and in full-color.....five
of them on one envelope makes quite a splash. Combined with other
Southwest art on your wall, this piece of postal stamp art will be a source of pride and conversation.
Double matted in green and white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY INCLUDED***
