On October 24, 2003, the USPS issued a stamp commemorating the Snowy Egret. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover for the Snowy Egret stamp cancelled from the city of issue (New York City) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features artwork rendered in watercolor. Shown in his beautiful mating plumage, the Snowy Egret was hunted almost to the point of extinction because of his showy feathers.
