SHIRE HORSE 1st Day Issue Postal Cover.... On
July 5, 1978, the Royal Post of Great Britain issued a set of four
stamps to celebrate their magnificent native horses. Shown here is a
genuine First Day Issue Postal Cover with the stamp for the Shire Horse, cancelled from the city of issue (Edinburgh) on first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark created expressly to cancel this stamp on its 'birthday.'
The cachet
(artwork on the envelope) shows a Shire horse mare and foal with the
following caption below - "Shire Horse - The jangling harness and clop
of hoofs still echo as Shires work a brewer's route in London's heart."
The company that produced this cover has also written a brief commentary
about the Shire Horse, which we've included."
Matted in green & white, we've sized the mat to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
