On June 27, 2001, the USPS issued a set of ten stamps to commemorate Ten Classic Ballparks. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover for Shibe Park, also known as Connie Mack Stadium, home to the Philadelphia Athletics and Philadelphia Phillies. The stamp for Shibe Park is cancelled from the city of issue (in this case New York, NY) on the first day of issue captioned above. Instead of the usual one city of issue selected for the vast majority of stamps, this set of ten stamps had FOUR....Chicago, Detroit, New York, and Boston. Obviously, the since Philadelphia is not a city of issue, the city of issue is moot. Shibe Park was named for Ben Shibe, a Philadelphia Athletics shareholder who manufactured baseball items.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features Shibe Park printed on silk, the luster lending an almost three-dimensional quality to the picture.
Double matted in green and white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
