SHETLAND PONY 1st Day Issue Postal Cover.... On
July 5, 1978, the Royal Post of Great Britain issued a set of four
stamps to celebrate their magnificent native horses. Shown here is a
genuine First Day Issue Postal Cover with the stamp for the Shetland Pony, cancelled from the city of issue (Edinburgh) on first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark created expressly to cancel this stamp on its 'birthday.'
The cachet
(artwork on the envelope) shows a Shetland mare and her foal with the
following caption below - "Shetland Pony - Favorite with children around
the world, the Shetland is the smallest of all ponies. The company that
produced this cover has also written a brief commentary about the
Shetland, which we've included."
Matted in green & white, we've sized the mat to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
