On April 4, 1985, the USPS issued a set of five stamps celebrating seashells found off the coasts of North America. Shown here are two genuine First Day Covers in the form of Maxi Cards for two of the five in the series.....the Callico Scallop and the Retriculated Helmet. Each card has the stamp cancelled from the city of issue, Boston, Mass., on the first day of issue captioned above.
The term Maxi Card derives its name from Maximum Card, meaning maximum artwork. Becasue the artwork takes up the whole card, even the words "First Day of Issue" are not stamped on in order to preserve the integrity of the art. And this is indeed, spectacular art. Each shell is shown in three different views in delicious pastel colors evoking sand, clear water, and gentle breezes. Collectible, historic, this is a great piece of seashell memorabilia bringing back pleasant memories of sea and shore. Note: The enclosed commentaries on each shell have the date of issue and the city of issue printed on them. When you match up the city and date, you'll have your proof that these are genuine First Day Covers.
Matted in off-white and sand, this piece is sized to fit a standard 11 x 14 frame. We are proud at Wall Art Collectibles to bring you this exclusive piece of postal stamp art. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentaries Included***
