Sequoyah.... On December 27, 1980, the USPS honored a most remarkable man - Sequoyah, raised a Cherokee and the father of the Cherokee alphabet. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Tahlequah, OK) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows a portrait of Sequoyah with the Cherokee alphabet in the background.
