Seahorses of Vanuatu.....
On September 24, 2003, Vanuatu issued three large full-colored stamps celebrating three different Seahorses, found in the warm Indo-Australian region. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with all three stamps cancelled from the city of issue (Port Ville Vanuatu) on the first day of issue captioned above. From the yellowgold seahorse on the left, to the coal-colored one in the middle, to the bumpy orange and white one on the right, these three species represent three of thirty-five species in the world. They all exhibit strong territorial behavior, mate for life, remaining solo if one partner is removed, and have the distinction of the male carrying and fetilizing the eggs until the babies emerge in 4-5 weeks. Note the clever 'Seahorse Tail' postmark designed for the express purpose of cancelling these stamps on their 'birthday.'
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a coral reef scene with a seahorse whose tail is wrapped around the 'V' in Vanuatu. On the back is a brief commentary about these seahorses, which we've included.
Matted in blue, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
