SACAJAWEA Shoshone Guide Lewis & Clark 1st Day Cover..... On October 18, 1994, the USPS issued a set of 20 stamps called Legends of the West. This stamp (depicting Sacajawea with her infant son on her back) is one of those and honors Shoshone guide and interpreter Sacajawea. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Laramie, Wyoming) on the first day of issue captioned above. In short, it's the 'birthday' of the stamp - a collectible, historic piece of postal and Western memorabilia.
The cachet (artwork
on the envelope) shows a beautiful painting of Sacajawea on the Lewis
& Clark Expedition. The company that produced this cover has also
written a brief commentary about Sacajawea which we've included.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY plus COMMENTARY INCLUDED***
