On April 11, 1996, the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate the Marathon. Shown here is an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Boston, MA) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special 'running figures' postmark, which mirrors the stamp, used to cancel the stamp on its "birthday."
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a male and female runner crossing the finish line in the Boston Marathon. The picture is rendered in watercolors by a leading cachetmaker that continues to win awards for their art. Historic, collectible, this is a great piece of Marathon Memorabilia for the only US stamp celebrating this sport.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
