Classic British Automobiles... On October 13, 1982, the Royal Post issued a set of four stamps - Classic British Automobiles. Each stamp shows the early model in black and white and then the current model in color. The four automobiles are the Austin Seven and Metro; the Ford Model T and Escort; the Jaguar SSi and EJ6, and the Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost and Silver Spirit. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with all four stamps cancelled from the city of issue (Edinburgh) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special 'steering wheel' cancellation mark created to cancel this set of stamps on their 'birthday.'.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows the elegant Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit
- the ultimate luxury car blending technology and tradition. The
Silver Spirit is recreated in great detail and absolute authenticity by
artist-illustrator Stanley Paine.
The company that produced this cover has also written a brief
commentary about these automobiles and the artist, which we've
included. Unaddressed, historic, and all four stamps in the series,
this cover represents a collectible as well as beautiful piece of
Automobile and Postal memorabilia.
Matted in blue, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
