ROBERT JOHNSON Blues Singer 1st Day Cover ROBERT JOHNSON Stamp.... On September 17, 1994, the USPS issued a set of eight stamps honoring ten different Jazz and Blues Musicians. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the Robert Johnson stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Greenville, MS) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The color cachet
(artwork on the envelope) features a photo of Johnson holding his
guitar, which he played in a 'slide' style. In his short life - he was
poisoned at the age of twenty-seven - he recorded a total of
twenty-nine songs, considered among the most important early blues
recordings. The company that produced this cover has also written a
brief commentary about Johnson, which we've included.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 X 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
