On June 29, 1995, the USPS issued a set of twenty stamps to commemorate the U.S. Civil War. The most prized cover from that set is Commander-in-Chief of the Confederate Army.... Robert E. Lee. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Gettysburg, PA) on the first day of issue captioned above. The full-color stamp depicts Lee in full dress uniform with his horse Traveler in the background. Note the special postmark designed just for the cancellation of these twenty stamps on their 'birthday.'
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Lee with Confederate soldiers in the foreground. The producer of this cover has also written a brief commentary about Lee's career, which we've included. Historic, collectible, unaddressed and in pristeen condition, here's your chance to display a beautiful piece of Robert E. Lee and Civil War memorabilia.
Double matted in gray & gold, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
