On March 11, 1999, the USPS issued an imprinted postcard with the imprint or 'stamp' commemorating the 250th Anniversary of the Redwood Library and Athenaeum, the oldest surviving lending library in the U.S. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the 'stamp', depicting the Redwood Library and Athenaeum, incorporating the first classic portico in America, cancelled from the city of issue (Newport, RI) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post office) also features the exterior of the Library. The producer of this cover has also written a brief commentary about this historic Colonial building, which we've included.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
