On March 8, 1978, the USPS issued a set of four American Quilt stamps. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with one of the four stamps cancelled from the city of issue (Charleston, WV) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features the Bride's Quilt, perhaps the most important of all quilts. For two hundred years, the Bride's Quilt, also called the thirteeth quilt because it was started only after a girl had spent a large part of her growing years making twelve quilts for her dowry, symbolically displayed the culmination of a young woman's skills, and was the only quilt to use a heart design. The producer of this cover has also written a short commentary on the Bride's Quilt; we have included a copy for you.
Double matted in blue & white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8 X 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
