PUEBLO ART Pottery Pueblos 1st Day of Issue Postal Cover.... On April 13, 1977, the USPS issued a set of four stamps celebrating Pueblo Art. Each stamp features a different Pot and the place where each pot is displayed. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with all four stamps, depicting an Acoma pot from the School of American Research, a Zia pot from the Museum of New Mexico, a San Ildefonso pot from the Denver Art Museum, and a Hopi pot from the Heard Museum Phoenix. The stamps are cancelled from the city of issue (Santa Fe, New Mexico) on the first day of issue postal cover captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork
on the envelope) shows a Pueblo woman firing a pot in an open kiln. The
text below reads, "The Pueblos - Theirs the genius of a thousand years
flourishing still under the golden sun of America's Southwest." The
producer of this cover has written a brief commentary about The Pueblos,
which we've included.
