On February 20, 1962, the USPS issued a stamp to honor astronaut John H. Glenn, Jr., America's first man to orbit the Earth. What is so wonderful about this cover is that the actual liftoff date of the Friendship 7 spacecraft is the issue date for the stamp. Note also that since the U.S. has its ten-year rule of no living person on a stamp unless dead for 10 years and 1 year for a President, the Frienship 7 is depicted on the stamp. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Cape Canaveral, FL) on the first day of issue captioned above.

The cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows the Atlas-Mercury at lift off as well as an inset of Glenn.  Collectible, extremely historic, this cover being unaddressed with a great cachet is a perfect piece of US Space Memorabilia to display proudly on your wall or bookshelf.

Double matted in blue & white, this piece will fit a standard 8 X 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
