James Madison - "Father of the Constitution"...
On October 18, 2001, the USPS issued a stamp to honor the 4th President of the United States, James Madison on the 250th Anniversary of his Birth. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope showing the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (New York City) on the first day of issue captioned above. The addition of three older stamps, which were added to the envelope and then cancelled along with the new one, elevate this cover to a Combo status. The three older stamps are: a 4-cents stamp honoring Madison and issued 7/01/38; a 15-cents stamp honoring his wife Dolley Madison, and issued 5/20/80, and; a 22-cents stamp commemorating the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Madison and his signature. Author of over 1/3 of the Federalist papers, "Father of the Bill of Rights", proponent of the system of 'checks and balances', James Madison - used his knowledge of the law to write many of the fundemental laws of the new United States of America. This is a collectible, historic piece of Presidential and Law memorabilia.
