On May 18, 2005, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, issued a set of stamps to honor the most beloved Pope of our lifetime, His Holiness Pope John Paul II. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Majuro) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special cancellation depicting the Papal Arms created for this stamp.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a close-up portrait of Pope John Paul. Also included is a short commentary of the failed assasination attempt in 1981.
