On September 18, 1987, the most beloved Pope of our lifetime, His Holiness Pope John Paul II, visited San Francisco, Ca. on his visit to the United States. Shown here is a Commemorative Cover, an envelope postmarked on the day of the visit, and the city where the event took place. In order to "freeze" the event, current postage must be added, for without a stamp, the post office will not cancel. Note the special cancellation created for this event.
