On September 17, 1987, the most beloved Pope of our lifetime, His Holiness Pope John Paul II, visited Monterey, Ca. on his visit to the United States. Shown here is a Commemorative Cover, an envelope postmarked on the day of the visit, and the city where the event took place. In order to "freeze" the event, current postage must be added, for without a stamp, the post office will not cancel. The producer of this cover, Artcraft, chose two stamps wisely: George Washington, the Father of our Country, and the Search for Peace stamp. These stamps symbolize the Spriritual Father of the Catholic Church on a mission of Peace. Note the special cancellation created for this event.
The black & white cachet (artwork on the envelope) features Pope John Paul waving to the crowds in Monterey.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
