United We Stand - Heroes - Police 9/11.........
On October 24, 2001 in the month following the events of 9/11, the USPS issued a stamp depicting the American Flag with the words 'United We Stand.' Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Washington DC) on the first day of issue captioned above. The addition of the 6-cents Law & Order stamp, issued May 17, 1968 and cancelled along with the 'United We Stand' stamp, crank this first day cover up a couple of notches, making it a Combo. We added an uncancelled 'Heroes' stamp that wasn't issued until June 7, 2002. Since the 'United We Stand' stamp and the 'Heroes' stamp are the only two stamps to date issued for 9/11, this cover displays both.
The full-color cachet features "The New Twin Towers" - a policeman and fireman gazing out toward the Statue of Liberty and the skyline of New York City, the Stars and Stripes waving above them. The original artwork was rendered in water colors by cachet-winning artist Sue Allen.
Double Matted in blue and white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
